As the cost of living crisis bites, older Aussies are conscious of making every cent count, especially on their energy bills. But shockingly an estimated 60% of seniors aren’t claiming cash back on their bills that they’re already entitled to.
States and territories all offer rebates to Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card holders but our governments aren’t communicating this - meaning many pensioners are unaware that they could claim up to $750 off their energy bills.
Fortunately, there’s a service that can help older Aussies apply for their discounts AND switch to a cheaper energy plan - and best of all, it’s completely free!
“Missing out on free money”: shocking statistic that shows Aussie seniors aren’t getting energy discounts they’re entitled to.

Who Gets the help?
Anyone who holds a Commonwealth concession card could get access to energy bill concessions. Relevant concession cards including:
Where do I get this help?
From your energy retailer. That’s the company that sends you your power bills. At the moment, up to 60% of concession card holders are NOT claiming their concession discounts from the energy retailers.
If you’re struggling with your rising energy bills, and you already have a concession card, you might qualify for more help.
Over 3 million Aussies could be eligible for some form of financial assistance on their bills, but many know nothing about how much they’re entitled to and how to apply for their discounts.
What’s more, there’s a good chance that anybody over 65 who hasn’t switched energy retailers in the past few years may be missing out on a cheaper plan.
How much could you save?
Industry body The Energy Charter estimates that concession card holders could get up to $500 off their energy bill - and even as much as $750 in some cases.
What’s more, even government regulator the ACCC is encouraging Aussies to shop around. They estimate an average household that’s on a market plan that’s now 21 above the reference price - or DMO - could save about $400 simply by moving to the regulated standing offer, assuming average consumption.
That’s a potentially whopping $1,110 in annual savings on energy just with a few phone calls.
But how do you know where to look for a better offer? Our team compare energy plans across a panel of well-known names and will help you switch and apply the discounts if you see a better plan from the panel.
